Grace Presbyterian Church

E-mail bulletin

June 4, 2005

Dear Members and Friends of Grace,

Greeting in the precious name of our Savior Jesus Christ! Please note the following information:

This coming Lord’s Day, June 5th:

-         In what way does God, who has “foreordained whatsoever comes to pass” (Westminster Shorter Catechism #7) hear and answer our prayers? This is the question the adult Sunday School class will take up as we continue our study of “A Call to Spiritual Reformation – Priorities from Paul and His Prayers”, by D. A. Carson. We’ll see that a proper understanding of God’s sovereignty actually encourages our praying, rather than being a disincentive to prayer.

-         I will preach on Mark 10:13-16 during the morning service. The message will be, “To Whom Does the Kingdom Belong?”

-         At the morning service, we will publicly receive John and Tara Lilly, and Robert Reed, as members of Grace. Also, we will have the joy of seeing the sacrament of Baptism administered to the Lillys’ son, Samuel John.

-         There will be a fellowship meal immediately following the morning service.

-         At the evening service, I will speak on Psalm 139.

 Saturday, June 11th:

-         Both the Men’s prayer breakfast and the Women’s Bible Study will meet this morning. The Men’s prayer breakfast will meet at the church at 8:00 a.m. For more information, call me at 321-6151. The Women’s Bible Study will meet at the Johnsons’ house at 8:30 a.m. For more information on that meeting, contact Marilyn Doerfel (364-0830) or Robyn Johnson (321-6151).

Garage Sale:

-         There will be a church garage sale on June 16th (possibly), 17th, and 18th (Thursday – Saturday). The proceeds will be used to help pay for the registration fees of the campers going to the presbytery’s Young People’s Camp next month (see below). Further details of the garage sale (including location) will be announced soon. If you have any items you would like to contribute for the sale, please contact Marilyn Doerfel at 364-0830.

Eric Pyle’s work with Wycliffe Bible Translators:

-         Read Eric’s latest newsletter (“Eric’s Heart Language – Explorer”): http://www.opcNorman.org/Wycliffe/EricPyle/newsletters/heart_lang_exp_mar05.pdf

Young People’s Camp:

-         The 2005 Presbytery of the Southwest (PSW) Young People’s Camp will be held July 23rd – July 29th in Amarillo, Texas. The camp’s theme is “Covenant Scene Investigation”, and is for students going into the 6th – 12th grades. Last year we had several people from Grace attend, both as campers and counselors. I hope that we can send another good-sized contingent this year, as well. There is information and registration forms available at the church. NOTE: The registration deadline is July 8th.

-         If you would like more information on this camp, contact me or Betty Brack at betbrack@amaonline.com, or 806-433-5415.

Opportunities for service:

-         Grace Presbyterian will again be involved with the annual Oklahoma City Conference on Reformed Theology. The conference dates are Sept. 30th and Oct. 1st, and the speaker is Dr. Michael Horton of Westminster Seminary in California. You may have heard his radio program, “The White Horse Inn”, or be familiar with the magazine he edits, “Modern Reformation” (Dr. Horton also happens to be Faithann Basore’s uncle). Volunteers are needed to help with registration, ushering, and other types of service. Please call me if you would like to help in any way with the planning and running of the conference. For more information on the conference, go to: www.reformokc.com.

In Christ,

Pastor Scott
