Grace Presbyterian Church

E-mail bulletin

June 9, 2005

Dear Members and Friends of Grace,

The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. (Psalm 18:2)

Greetings in the name of the one who delivers us from sin and death, the Lord Jesus Christ! May you find in him today that strength, peace, and security that he richly provides for all who call upon his precious name.

Here is what’s happening in the life of Grace Presbyterian Church:

 Saturday, June 11th:

-         Both the Men’s prayer breakfast and the Women’s Bible Study will meet this morning. The Men’s prayer breakfast will meet at the church at 8:00 a.m. For more information, call me at 321-6151. The Women’s Bible Study will meet at the Johnsons’ house at 8:30 a.m. For more information on that meeting, contact Marilyn Doerfel (364-0830) or Robyn Johnson (321-6151).

This coming Lord’s Day, June 12th:

-         Last week during the adult Sunday School class, we looked at the relationship of God’s sovereignty to our praying. This week, we will consider how Paul prays in the light of the sovereignty of God. Our text will be Ephesians 1:15-23.

-         At the morning service, I will preach on Colossians 1:24 – 2:5. The message will be, “The Marks of Christian Ministry.” The Lord’s Supper will also be observed during the morning service.

-         As we do each time we observe the Lord’s Supper, we will receive a diaconal offering. This offering is taken up at the same time as the general offering. Please specify on your check if it is for the diaconal offering, or use one of the marked envelopes set out on the table in the narthex of the church.

-         At the evening service, I will begin a new, four-week series on Christian discipleship. Using the Gospel of Mark as our guide, we will consider what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ. This week’s message will be, “The Call and the Cross.” The evening service begins at 6:00 p.m.

Garage Sale:

-         There will be a church garage sale on June 17th and 18th. The proceeds will be used to help pay for the registration fees of the campers going to the presbytery’s Young People’s Camp next month (see below). If you have any items you would like to contribute for the sale, please contact Marilyn Doerfel at 364-0830. The garage sale will be held at our house (Scott and Robyn Johnson, 3827 Lynnbrook Cir., Norman, OK, 73072).

Website update:

-         All of the sermons and Sunday School lessons up to May 29th are now on the church’s website. The address is: www.opcNorman.org.

Eric Pyle’s work with Wycliffe Bible Translators:

-         Read Eric’s latest newsletter (“Eric’s Heart Language – Explorer”): http://www.opcNorman.org/Wycliffe/EricPyle/newsletters/heart_lang_exp_mar05.pdf

-         As a reminder, you may support Eric’s ministry by giving a contribution during the time of the regular offering. Please be sure to note on your checks that the contribution is for Eric Pyle.

Young People’s Camp:

-         The 2005 Presbytery of the Southwest (PSW) Young People’s Camp will be held July 23rd – July 29th in Amarillo, Texas. The camp’s theme is “Covenant Scene Investigation”, and is for students going into the 6th – 12th grades. Last year we had several people from Grace attend, both as campers and counselors. I hope that we can send another good-sized contingent this year, as well. There is information and registration forms available at the church. NOTE: The registration deadline is July 8th.

-         If you would like more information on this camp, contact me or Betty Brack at betbrack@amaonline.com, or 806-433-5415.

Opportunities for service:

-         Grace Presbyterian will again be involved with the annual Oklahoma City Conference on Reformed Theology. The conference dates are Sept. 30th and Oct. 1st, and the speaker is Dr. Michael Horton of Westminster Seminary in California. You may have heard his radio program, “The White Horse Inn”, or be familiar with the magazine he edits, “Modern Reformation” (Dr. Horton also happens to be Faithann Basore’s uncle). Volunteers are needed to help with registration, ushering, and other types of service. Please call me if you would like to help in any way with the planning and running of the conference. For more information on the conference, go to: www.reformokc.com.

In Christ,

Pastor Scott
