I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.

(John 11:25)

Dear Members and Friends of Grace,

The Apostle Peter preached that it was impossible for the “pangs of death” to keep their hold on Christ (Acts 2:24). Accordingly, after three days in the grave, Jesus was raised from the dead to glory and immortality. The Bible calls death the “last enemy” (1 Corinthians 15:26). No matter who you are, you must face this enemy sooner or later. Death comes to some after a long and fruitful life. For others, as Robyn and I learned this week, death comes to others just weeks after they are conceived in the womb. But in any case, whether it comes in 100 years or in 100 days, death is an unwelcome intruder into the human experience. No matter how common it is, it never loses its sting nor does it cease to be the enemy of mankind. But thanks be God that Christ, through his death and resurrection, has vanquished death forever! Though death must still come to all, for those who believe in Christ, though they die, yet shall they live!

May this hope be your strength as you serve the Lord this week. I look forward to worshipping our risen Savior with you this Resurrection Sunday.

            Wednesday, April 12th:

-         The Wednesday Evening prayer meeting will meet at the Doerfels’ house again this week. This means there will be no dinner at our house for singles before the prayer meeting. Lord willing, we will be hosting again both the dinner and the prayer meeting next week as usual. Please call me at 321-6151 or Bill and Marilyn Doerfel at 364-0830 with any questions.

Easter Sunday, April 16th:

-         The adult Sunday School class will continue to study chapter 12 of Dr. Clowney’s book, “Living in Christ’s Church.” This Sunday’s topic is “The Ministry of the Church”.”

-         At the morning service, I will preach from John 11:17-27.

-         The evening service starts at 6:00 p.m. We are watching and discussing a video series called “The Case for Kids.” In this series, teachers Paul and Tedd Tripp explain and summarize biblical principles of child-rearing.

Sunday evening, April 30th:

-         There will be a joint hymn sing this evening at New Covenant Bible Church in Oklahoma City. The service will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a sandwich/salad meal following. For more information, call me or Larry Horton at 793-9566 (evenings).

Website update:

-         Grace’s website has been updated to include sermons and Sunday School lessons up to April 9th.

Eric Pyle’s work with Wycliffe Bible Translators:

-         See Eric Pyle’s website for information about his software programming work for Wycliffe.

Opportunities for service:

-         Volunteers are needed to clean the church building for the months of May, June, and July. If you are interested in serving this way, please sign the sign-up sheet located in the vestibule of the church.

-         Stamps for Missions. Each year, the OPC raises funds for missions projects by selling used stamps. This year’s proceeds will go to help finance the translation of Reformed literature into the Tigrinya language for Eritrea. At Grace, we have on hand a large amount of stamps that could be sent to the OPC for this purpose but first must be prepared. If you would like to volunteer to prepare the stamps for sending to the OPC offices, please let me know. For more information, see this article.
