Here are just some of the exciting parts; Not only will there be some great lectures and sightseeing, but we will be visiting the Jerusalem Chamber of Westminster Abbey!!! Grace e-mail bulletin - 02/16/05

Grace Presbyterian Church

E-mail bulletin

February 16, 2005

Dear Members and Friends of Grace,

You will find that the outstanding characteristic of all the most saintly people the world has ever known has been that they have not only spent much time in private prayer, but have also delighted in it.

This quote comes from the 20th-century British preacher Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones. He reminds us that, as Christians, we are called not only to apply ourselves to prayer, but we also ought to delight in it! You know from your own experience that prayer is difficult business. Lloyd-Jones says in another place, “everything we do in the Christian life is easier than prayer.” But prayer is vital to abiding in Christ and growing in the knowledge of him. How can we learn not just to pray more, but to delight in it?

That is a question I hope we will begin to answer together over the next few months. In a few weeks we will be focusing on prayer during our Sunday School time. And, beginning this Sunday evening, I will be delivering a series of devotional messages from that great prayer book of the Bible, the Psalms. I hope that as we hear the Bible’s teaching on prayer, and discuss it together, we will be encouraged to pray with more diligence and consistency. I also hope that our desire for that fellowship with God found in prayer will increase, and we will learn the delight of prayer that Lloyd-Jones says is the one unmistakable mark of all “the most saintly people in the world.”

While I don’t usually make guarantees, I can safely say this much: to the extent that we hear the Scripture’s teaching on prayer, and take it to heart, and seek to apply it to our prayer lives, the Lord will bless the life of our congregation. My prayer is that we will become a praying people. Who knows what the Lord may do as we earnestly seek his face in heart-felt and consistent prayer?

Please note the following information regarding the life of our congregation:

           This evening, Feb. 16th:

-         We will meet for our weekly Wednesday evening prayer meeting this evening at 7:00 p.m. at our house. Please call me for directions or to inform me of any matters for prayer.

This coming Lord’s Day, Feb. 20th:

-         The adult Sunday School class will continue to watch and discuss the next segment of Ravi Zacharias’ video series called “Deliver Us From Evil – Restoring the Soul in a Disintegrating Culture”.

-         During the morning service, I will preach from Mark 14:26-42. The message will be, “Thy Will Be Done”.

-         We will meet for our evening service at 6:00. I will begin a series of devotional messages from the Psalms, considering a different Psalm each week. This Sunday evening, I will speak on Psalm 1.

Opportunity for service:

-         I urge you to consider signing up to clean the church for one month. The time required is about one hour per week, and you can do it anytime that is convenient for you. Not only is it important that we take care of the building in which we meet to worship each week, but a clean and orderly church building will be much more welcoming to visitors than one that isn’t. Consider serving the congregation in this important way. There are openings for April and June.
